STAGE 2 COIN HARDCOPY

Here we have a hardcopy of the Snowtrooper mail away POTF coin. We can say this piece is a "stage 2" hardcopy or "tooling master". A stage 2 hardcopy differs from a stage 1 hardcopy despite their similar appearance. The stage 1 is cast directly from the original sculpt, whereas the stage 2 is created from the softcopy. Stage 2 coins are slightly convex due to the casting process from the softcopy. This tooling master was used to create the production dies for the mass produced coins.

Above is a closeup view showing the detail of the character image. I'm probably biased, but I feel this coin exhibited one of the most dynamic images of any POTF coin. This was a key acquisition for my snowtrooper collection. Admirers of this prototype will be pleased to know that the coin sculpt, stage 1 hardcopy, and softcopy all exist and currently reside in my collection thanks to a gracious offer by fellow Hoth Stormtrooper collector, Ben Sheehan.
