MANTIS

Kenner released Mantis and other evil Darkseid henchmen for the 2nd series figure wave released in 1985. Mantis is absolutely one of the most detailed characters in terms of sculpting from the entire line. The figure was designed to exhibit a "Pincer Thrust" power action causing both of Mantis' arms to thrust up and down by squeezing the legs together. Mantis shipped exclusively on 2nd series card styles. While Kenner intended to re-release all early figures in conjunction with the 1986 third series wave, Mantis has not been documented as being released on the 33-back offerless card style. An existing proof card and prototype carded sample provide evidence of the character's intended 3rd series re-release. Mantis' release is documented thus far on the following four domestic (US) Kenner card types:

Kenner Canada released 31 of the 33 carded Super Powers figures in bilingual packaging featuring both English and French text to comply with bilingual packaging laws in the country. As such, Mantis saw release on the lone 2nd series Kenner Canada card style:

Children residing outside the US and Canada collected Super Powers action figures distributed by additional international companies. Unfortunately Mantis did not enjoy release in any non-US country except Canada and possibly Australia.
