MANTIS PROOF CARD

(2ND SERIES, FAN CLUB OFFER)

Toy packaging color correction, text proofing, and other reviewing technically take place during the packaging production process's cromalin stage. Proof cards, however, sometimes contain signatures and review dates indicating they undergo some level of approval/review. Super Powers proof cards often exhibit a punch style deviating substantially in shape from their production counterparts. Some exhibit punch shapes akin to those found on production Star Wars blister cards, while others vary less drastically. Proof cards are frequently used for carded samples where the bubble is hand applied to a proof card.

Kenner employed the "Fan Club Offer" advertisement on both 1st and 2nd series blister cards. 2nd Series Fan Club Offer banners, like the one found on this Mantis proof card front, denote a 1986 offer expiration, while banners on 1st series cards contain a 1985 offer expiration date.

The third photo, shown above, provides a close-up view depicting the complete artwork normally obscured by the figure and mini-comic on carded figures. Mantis has also been documented in proof card form on a single 3rd Series 33-Back (Offerless) proof card as seen here.
